Several walls and gardens were destroyed.
Big scare in the Pyrenees. A landslide occurred around 7:30 p.m. this Sunday March 31 at Andorra la Vella. Due to recent rains, a 180-ton rock broke loose and rolled down the mountain before ending its course along the Bonavistà canal, a few meters from the first houses, reports the RTVAnational television.
Upstream, several walls and gardens were destroyed. The enormous piece of rock measuring approximately 100 cubic meters which resulted in a huge cloud of dust and a terrifying noise, left behind large debris. Fortunately, there were no injuries or material damage to the buildings.
Work to build a dike
Road traffic, as well as several parking lots, was closed as a precautionary measure in the surrounding streets. This is until the area is completely cleaned.
The first geological examinations indicated that the situation is now stabilized and that no homes will have to be evacuated. Work is also underway to build a dike which will be used to secure the unstable area and where other landslides had already occurred in the past.
