A man injured several people with a sword in the Hainault district of London, before being arrested.
A 36-year-old man was arrested in Hainault, east London, after attacking passers-by with a sword, leaving several people injured, police in the London borough of Redbridge announced on Tuesday (April 30).
In a press release, she specifies that she was called “shortly before 7 a.m.” to this area of London, with witnesses saying that “people had been stabbed”.
A witness cited by The Telegraph reports seeing a man “running with a samurai sword” who “stabbed four people after crashing his van into a house.”
Police officers targeted
“A man with a sword was arrested,” indicates the police statement published on X, specifying that according to testimonies collected on site the suspect attacked passers-by “and two police officers”.
On the same social network, the London ambulance service indicates that “five people” were treated and transported to hospital.
“We do not believe that the threat persists” in the neighborhood and “we are not looking for other suspects,” said Ade Adelekan, a police official cited in the press release. “This incident does not appear to be linked to terrorism,” he added.
Onthe Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said he was “absolutely devastated” by the attack.
