Israeli operation intensifies in Rafah
Despite ongoing talks for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Israel is carrying out intense bombings on Tuesday in Rafah, in the south of the Palestinian enclave, in order to increase “pressure” on Hamas.
According to the IDF, in recent hours, around fifty sites guarded by terrorists have been targeted. Previously, the population was called to leave the town located on the Egyptian border.
According to Palestinian media, ground troops and tanks were also seen in the streets of Rafah, near the border crossing.
Several deaths recorded in Rafah after airstrikes
The Israeli army carried out intense bombings on Tuesday in Rafah, in the south of Gaza, in order to increase “pressure” on Hamas a few hours before new talks in Cairo to try to influence a truce agreement to which the movement Islamist gave the green light.
Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip reported “numerous deaths” overnight in Rafah. And the Kuwaiti hospital, located in this city, said it had received “11 dead” and “dozens of wounded” in these strikes, thus recording an initial toll of five dead.
Witnesses and Palestinian security sources report airstrikes late Monday and early Tuesday, as well as intense artillery fire across the Gaza Strip, particularly in Rafah and its surroundings.
Israel sends delegation “to mediation”, but maintains its ground operation in Rafah
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed that this proposal accepted by Hamas was “far from Israeli demands”, while adding that Israel would send a delegation “to mediation to exhaust the possibilities of reaching an agreement” truce.
Despite international objections, Benjamin Netanyahu promised to launch the offensive on Rafah, whatever the outcome of the negotiations, the Israeli army affirming Monday that it was essential to “destroy the last four battalions” of Hamas.
Hamas accepts Gaza truce proposal submitted by Egyptian and Qatari mediators
The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas announced last night that it had accepted a truce proposal submitted by mediators.
According to a senior Hamas official, Khalil al-Hayya, the proposal includes three phases, each lasting 42 days, and includes a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the return of the displaced and an exchange of hostages still held in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, with the aim of a “permanent ceasefire”.
