The Minister of the Interior announced this measure on Thursday for young people under 18 for two months, in order to fight against an outbreak of delinquency on the island.
Currently traveling in Guadeloupe, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin ordered Wednesday evening April 17 the establishment for two months of a curfew for young people under 18 years of age in Pointe-à-Pitre, in order to fight against an outbreak of delinquency. “We are very struck by the fact that minors are extremely numerous in delinquency unfortunately, in Guadeloupe in general and in Pointe-à-Pitre in particular”declared Gérald Darmanin who specified that this measure will come into force “from the beginning of next week” and will be effective from 8 p.m. “The State will not allow delinquency to take place which we see is increasingly young and which is increasingly armed”he told the media who followed him during a trip through the streets in Pointe-à-Pitre.
The Minister of the Interior made this announcement after a meeting with the Minister Delegate for Overseas Territories Marie Guévenoux, the Prefect and the Mayor of Pointe-à-Pitre.

In recent months, the sub-prefecture of Guadeloupe – 14,500 inhabitants in 2020 – has largely contributed to the chronicle of news items. In March, a shopkeeper was killed there during a robbery. Then tourists on a cruise were stabbed by a woman with psychiatric disorders.
