UNUSUAL – Around 200 tentacles in the house. Cal, 9 years old, has always been passionate about marine biology and in particular eight-tentacled molluscs. So much so that his parents granted his wish and adopted a two-spotted octopus from California named Terrance. Except that, as you can see in our video at the top of the article, the family who lives in Oklahoma, in the United States, was treated to some surprises. Many surprises.
After several weeks, Terrance’s owners realized that the animal was being discreet and hiding. Normal, because Terrance is actually a female who remained near the eggs she had just laid. Between 40 and 60. The family initially thought the eggs had not been fertilized, but after a few weeks of waiting, almost transparent baby octopuses began swimming in the aquarium.
Even though Cameron, the father, had researched the animal well before adopting it, he didn’t expect to have to take care of so many octopuses.
Normally, a female octopus dies after laying eggs because she no longer hunts to stay with her eggs. But four months after the spawn, Cal and Cameron managed to keep Terrance alive. With their videos TikTok, father and son give news of Terrance but also of the newcomers: Squid Cudi, Swim Shady, Jay-Sea or Sea-Yoncé. About twenty of the baby octopuses have so far survived.
