A 180-ton rock broke loose from its Pyrenean massif before hurtling towards Andorra la Vella. He miraculously stopped his course a few meters from the houses.

More fear than harm. This Sunday, March 31, around 7:30 p.m., a pile of stones weighing 180 tons fell from a mountain near Andorra la Vella, on the French border. He rolled down the slope at high speed under the frightened eyes of some residents.

In videos published on social networks, the scene is impressive. A publication from RTVA Andorra, the small state’s public channel, shows the enormous rock approaching the city at high speed, leaving behind a trail of smoke.

Fortunately, it stopped in a channel along the Bonavista Canal. It was only a few meters from the houses, according to information from France 3.

Homes were still affected on the side of the mountain, with walls and gardens destroyed by the passage of the rock. But fortunately no injuries were reported.

The emergency services had cut off access to the nearby track to intervene. It has since been removed. Authorities deemed the area stabilized and did not require any evacuation.
