“I welcome the initiative taken by Spain, Ireland and Norway to recognize the State of Palestine (…) I am ashamed of my country at the moment,” declared Manon Aubry, head of the list LFI in the 2024 European elections, in the special program “Face à Manon Aubry” this Wednesday, on CNEWS.
The three countries jointly announced that they will recognize a Palestinian state next Tuesday. Manon Aubry, head of the LFI list in the 2024 European elections, spoke about this joint decision in the special program “Face à Manon Aubry” this Wednesday, May 22. The latter therefore welcomed “the initiative taken by Spain, Ireland and Norway to recognize the State of Palestine”.
“But where is France?”, she then asked herself. “It’s been months, years, since this government, even before, has not recognized the State of Palestine,” continued the elected official.
According to her, the struggle revolves around the recognition “of the State of Palestine within the 1967 borders so that Palestinians and Israelis can live side by side in two separate states and so that they can live in peace.”
“I am ashamed of French diplomacy”
In response to this initiative, the head of Israeli diplomacy, Israel Katz, accused Ireland, Norway and Spain of wanting to send “a message to the Palestinians and the whole world: terrorism pays”.
Hamas for its part welcomed an “important step”, but Pedro Sanchez, the Spanish Prime Minister recalled that he condemned the latter, calling it “a terrorist group which has no place in the future of Palestine “.
For Manon Aubry, “the major challenge is to bring peace”. This is why the politician told Cnews that she was “ashamed” of her country at the moment, “of French diplomacy”. She believes that France is “incapable of doing the minimum, what 140 states around the world have done, recognizing the right of the Palestinian people to have a state, which does not mean denying Israel.”
Slovenia should soon join Spain, Ireland and Norway. The country in fact adopted a decree on the recognition of a Palestinian state on May 9. This must be approved by Parliament by June 13. Today 146 of the 193 members of the UN recognize the Palestinian state.
